As part of the CDC funded National Public Health Improvement Initiative, the NYS DOH Performance Management Group (PMG) in the Office of Public Health Practice has developed the 'Basics of Quality Improvement for Public Health Practitioners' training module. This module is designed to be one part of a comprehensive approach to integrate QI into the culture of the agency. In alignment with the DOH Strategic Objective to 'Become a model performance-based organization' the PMG will be offering additional on-line modules as well as instructor led training and facilitation services for QI projects and performance management efforts across the organization.
Performance Management can be defined in many different ways, and can pertain to both organizational and individual performance. For the purposes of this tutorial, we will be describing a Performance Management Framework (PMF) that has been used to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of organizations in both the public and private sector.
At the completion of this tutorial it is anticipated you will be able to:
- List the key components of the Performance Management Framework.
- Explain how each component relates to your day to day work.
- Describe the role of the Performance Management.
