Public Health Confidential: Federal Overview



Public Health agencies at all levels have broad authority to collect, store and use personal health information to identify, report, and control health threats, and to plan, implement and evaluate public health programs and services.

This course covers basic concepts of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy Rule and provides the opportunity to identify situations in practice when confidentiality may be an issue.


At the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Describe the significance of HIPAA.
  • Identify the elements of the Privacy Rule.
  • Apply key confidentiality principles to everyday situations.
